Darren
Sant talks about his gritty urban noir series Tales From The Longcroft Estate.
Short Bio:
Darren Sant is a 41 year
old writer who lives in Hull in the United Kingdom. He writes dark urban noir
that usually has a pinch of humour. He has enjoyed publishing success in one
form or another since 2002. He signed with Trestle Press in August 2011.
Housing estates, council estates or
"schemes" as the Scots refer to them are places where you can find a
broad cross section of society. These are the salt of the earth folk. People
who will cross the street to help a friend, a neighbour and even a stranger.
These folk know the true meaning of the word community, to them it is not just
a politician’s buzz word but a way of life. This is what happens when you have
thousands of people living in close proximity. These are places where everyone
knows everyone else’s business. However, in every barrel there are a few bad
apples and the same applies to our estates. The Longcroft tales is a series of
short stories that deals with those folk that live on the margins within these
communities. The drug dealers, addicts, football hooligans, loan sharks,
gangsters and the lost and misguided souls.
As the series progresses I hope to give you a full colour high
definition vision of the Longcroft estate and it's many and varied denizens.
There will be laughter, tears, highs and lows.
The first story, A Good Day,
deals with a drug addict who finds himself with a decision to make. Does he
commit a selfless act or take advantage of a lucrative opportunity? Why do
flash cars keep parking outside? Why are the new neighbours so quiet?
The Second story Community
Spirit:
From the shadowy streets of the Longcroft
Estate comes another gritty story. New to the area single mother Tracy finds
herself falling upon hard times. She has no friends or support network only her
sweet little boy Tom.
When money troubles become too much for her she finds herself turning
to the wrong person for help. Will she escape from the clutches of despair or
sink beyond redemption?
Elsewhere on the Estate what shocking surprise awaits the Mayor?
Another stand alone story in this believable setting that could be just
down the road from you. The Longcroft tales bring you realism, hope and heart
as the Longcroft Estate is brought kicking and screaming to life one story at a
time.
The Third Story: Rowan’s
Folly: (To Be Published Soon!)
As the series develops the stories are
getting longer and more involved. In Rowan’s folly an electrician falls for the
wrong girl and brings down a whole heap of trouble upon himself. How will Andy
Rowan deal with a vengeful older brother and a gangster boyfriend?
Inept burglars Alan and Ben get more than
they bargained for when they burgle the wrong house.
The Fourth Story:
This story could be written by YOU. To keep the series a different
flavour I am looking for writers to submit a story that could become the fourth
in the series. Full details can be found here: http://santsrants.blogspot.com/2011/10/longcroft-estate-needs-your-talent.html
Could you be the next author published in
the Tales From The Longcroft Series?
